Xiaomi arrived in India not so long ago and within just a few years it became the top smartphone brand in the country. According to IDC, Xiaomi has been ruling the Indian smartphone for five consecutive quarters and the company expects to continue the legacy in the next quarter as well. Xiaomi has already started working on achieving the goal. 2018 has been a great year for Xiaomi, but the company has already started working on making 2019 a better one. Xiaomi is working on several smartphones to launch in 2019. In fact not just phones the company is staring the year in India by launching a new Mi TV, most likely the Mi TV 4 65-inch that has been previously launched in China for around Rs 60,000.
Xiaomi started the year 2019 by making Redmi an independent brand. Which means Xiaomi now has three sub-brands under it including Redmi, Mi and Poco. Under the Redmi brand Xiaomi is said to launch budget phones - like it usually does - while the Mi brand will most likely concentrate on premium and flagship devices. Lastly, under Poco brand Xiaomi will possibly offer the best value for money phones like the Poco F1 - which is currently the only smartphone with Snapdragon 845 available under Rs 20,000. In 2019, Xiaomi has big plans for all the three brands, at least that's what the rumours suggest. The company is all set to kick start the year by launching its first Redmi phone under the now independent Redmi brand. This phone could most likely be the Redmi Pro 2 or Redmi 7.

Xiaomi has big plans for 2019

Redmi Pro 2: The Redmi Pro 2 has been subjected to several rumours lately. This is supposedly the phone with 48MP camera that Xiaomi President announced last month. Xiaomi President said that a phone with 48MP rear camera will be launching in January 2019. In line with the same, Xiaomi has officially announced to host an event on Jan 10 in China to launch a Redmi phone. This Redmi phone is going to be the first device launching under the now separate Redmi brand. Xiaomi is yet to reveal the name of the upcoming Redmi phone, but some rumours say it could be the Redmi Pro 2. While other rumours believe it will be the successor to the Redmi 6, aka Redmi 7.
Leaks and rumours have revealed several details about the Redmi Pro 2. According to the rumours, the Redmi Pro 2 is expected to be the phone with 48MP camera. It is tipped to come with a glass back cover while on the front it could include thick bezels unlike most phones in this era. Rumours also reveal that the Redmi Pro 2 will sport an LCD display which is being supplied by BOE, a Chinese company. The phone is expected to come with triple camera setup, where the primary sensor will be of 48MP, while one of the three cameras will be a wide angle lens. Another rumours revealed the expected price of the Redmi Pro 2. The phone is said to be priced more than CNY 2,000.
Redmi 7: There's still a doubt whether the phone launching on Jan 10 is Redmi Pro 2 or Redmi 7. Considering the leaks and rumours of Redmi 7 flooding the internet, chances of this phone to launch on the slated date is also very much possible. Going by the rumours, the Redmi 7 is going to be very different from the Redmi 6. It is going to be a beautiful looking phone with gradient finish as also seen on the recently launched Mi Play.
The Redmi 7 has made its way to TENNA where the listing not only revealed some of the key specs of the phone but also leaked the phone in renders showing off all sides of the device. The renders reveal that the Redmi 7 will come with gradient finish which will give the phone a premium touch. The Redmi 7 is expected to come with dual rear cameras which will be vertically aligned on the top left edge of the back cover. The phone will include a circular rear mounted fingerprint sensor. On the front, the Redmi 7 is said to include a waterdrop notch display like the Mi Play. As for specs, the TENNA listing suggests that the phone will come with a screen size of 6.3-inch display with dimensions of 159.21 x 75.21 x 8.1mm. The TENNA listing also reveals that the Redmi 7 will come with 3900mAh battery.
Like every year, Xiaomi is also expected to launch Redmi 7A, Redmi 7 Pro and Redmi Note 7 in 2019, but details about these phones are yet to be revealed. We expect all the four Redm 7, Redmi 7A, Redmi Note 7 and Redmi 7 Pro to come to India
Mi A3: The Xiaomi Mi A2 is a great phone and is one of the best camera phones available under Rs 20,000 in India right now. Xiaomi is seemingly working on the successor of the Mi A2, aka the Mi A3. Like the Mi A2, the Mi A3 will also be an Android One device which means that the phone will offer a stock Android experience to the users. A report leaked on Thursday revealed that a Xiaomi device with codename orchid_sprout has been discovered "while digging through the latest Android Pie-based MIUI 10 firmware on the Mi 8". Considering the codename of the Mi A1, Mi A2, Mi A2 Lite were "tissot_sprout," "jasmine_sprout," and "daisy_sprout" respectively, the newly discovered codename -- orchid_sprout is for the Mi A3. As of now there are no details about the Mi A3 but we expect Xiaomi could work on making the camera of the Mi A3 even better than M A2. Like the M A2, we expect the Mi A3 to come to India.
Poco F2: The Poco F1 is one of the best phones available under 20,000 in India right now. With the success of the Poco F1, hopes are high with the Poco F2. The smartphone - Poco F2 - has already been subjected to several leaks and rumours and all of them suggest that the Poco F2 will look better than the Poco F1. The Poco F2 is expected to come with waterdrop notch, slimmer bezels, and glass or metallic back cover to give the phone a premium touch which wasn't the case with the Poco F1. The Poco F1 has a plastic build. Unexpectedly the Poco F2 will come packed with the same hardware setup as the Poco F1. The phone is said to be powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. We expect a 8GB RAM model as well. On the rear panel the phone will include a dual camera setup following which there will be a physical fingerprint sensor. We expect Poco F2 to come to India.
Mi 9: The Mi 8 successor is already in the works. On Thursday, the full specs, expected price of the Mi 9 have been leaked. Rumours suggest that the Mi 9 could launch by the end of February, most likely at Mobile World Congress by the end of Feb. As for the availability, the Mi 9 is expected to be available for grabs sometime around March.
Rumours suggest that the Mi 9 will look a lot like the OnePlus 6T while from the back while from the front it could be quite similar to the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. As for the specs, the Mi 9 is said to come packed with a 6.4-inch 19:9 FHD+ AMOLED display. Rumours suggest that the Mi 9 will be powered by Snapdragon 855 chipset paired with X24 LTE modem. The phone could come in only one variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. On the rear panel the Mi 9 is said to sport triple cameras while on the front in is said to include only one selfie sensor which will sit inside the waterdrop notch. Leaks suggest the Mi 9 will include a primary camera of 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor, a secondary camera of 12MP and the third camera will be a 3D TOF camera. On the front, the Mi 9 is expected to sport a 24MP camera for clicking selfies. The Mi 9 could be backed by a 3,500 mAh battery with 32W fast charging.
The price of the Mi 9 has also been leaked. Mi 9 is expected to come in only one variant with 6GB RAM + 128GB storage and this model could to be priced around CNY 2,999 which roughly translates to Rs 30,500.
Mi Mix 4: Rumours suggest that Xiaomi has already started working on the successor to the Mi Mix 3 launched last year. The Mi Mix 4 is said to be powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 855 chipset which will also run almost all flagships of 2019. The Mi Mix 4 is also said to include a triple camera setup on the rear panel. A report leaked last week reveals that one of the three cameras on the Mi Mix 4 will have a periscope lens, which will basically let users experience a great optical zoom. The report also suggested that the Mi Mix 4 might have a foldable screen.
Foldable Xiaomi phone: Alongside all these phones Xiaomi could be preparing to launch a foldable phone too. Popular leakster Evan Blass took to Twitter on Wednesday night to post a video of a foldable phone that he says could have been made by Xiaomi. The nineteen-second video showing the foldable phone revels that the device could be used as both smartphone and tablet. In the video, the foldable phone looks sleek with slim bezels on all sides. There are pretty high chances that the foldable phone showcased in the video could be from Xiaomi because the icons on the screen which look pretty similar to that of Xiaomi's MIUI.
The video also shows the foldable phone with three screens which will enable users to use the device as both smartphone and tablet. The video shows that the foldable phone can be folded on the left and right sides. On closing the sides the device can be used as a smartphone, while on opening the sides the device can work as a tablet. The screen of the foldable phone looks pretty big in the video.
Redmi Go: Xiaomi is seemingly working on an Android Go phone too which will possibly be called Redmi Go. Recently some of the key specs of the Android Go phone surfaced online.
The leak suggests that the Redmi Go Android Go phone will have a display with an aspect ratio of 18:9 with screen dimensions of 141 x 71 mm x 150mm (diagonally). This means the Redmi Go phone could sport a 5.9-inch display. The Android Go phone from Xiaomi is also said to come with Bluetooth 4.2 and dual SIM support. Like other Android Go phones the Redmi Go could also come with 1GB RAM and 8GB storage. On the hardware front, we expect a MediaTek SoC to power the Redmi Go, or a Snapdragon chipset for the entry-level phones that can handle basic games and browsing.
Rumours say that the Redmi Go will be the cheapest phone from Xiaomi. We expect it to be cheaper than the Redmi 6A which now retails for Rs 5,999 in India after the recent price drop. Over here at India Today Tech we believe that the Redmi Go could be priced half of the Redmi 6A, that is between Rs 3,000 and Rs 4,000. Chances of Redmi Go phone to come to India are high.
